Ogres are huge humanoids, with ugly tempers and voracious appetites. They are fond of treasure, and are often employed as mercenaries by evil races in particular. They tend to have yellowish hides, are covered with wart-like bumps, have black teeth and talons, and purplish eyes with white pupils. Ogres are exceptionally strong and hardy, but are known to be extremely dim-witted and lacking in wisdom. They are excellent in melee combat, but are extremely limited when they attempt to utilize magic. They also have a natural ability to cut fine filets out of corpses.

Faster levelers than giants, with racial damage modifier, abundant hp pool and a high strength, ogres serve best in a brute-related class as hitters, and are often picked instead of giants for their ability to actually dodge some of the attacks thrown at them.
Spellcasting is not their cup of tea, as ogres get a 10% spell cost penalty for arcane and psionic spells, and have base costs for divine spells. Naturally, they are not a no-fail race and will have small mana pools due to low intelligence, as well as difficulty casting spells at a reliable rate. (*)
Their stealth is bad and their archery is worse. These are not the paths to go with an ogre.
(*) For this reason some players like to make ogre mages and keep them at 11 intelligence - these level 27 lowmort characters are called "fade alts", and used to fade gear. Ogres make good candidates, but perhaps gargoyles are more effective, if more work to level due to higher TNL.
