Soldiers will use Silver Crossbow as 1st tier, or light crossbows below for 2nd tier.

For light crossbows, Finn's Crossbow is best. I think the Lightning Crossbow is 2nd tier.

Fusiliers use the Troublemaker. Dwarven Sling is 2nd tier. Plasma Slinger is an option, though it has its downsides.

Druids tend to use Gear Augmented Bow. Recently released is the Living Bow
